The full name of the business legend was Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani and today we’re going to learn about the life story of Dhirubhai Ambani and his sacrifices. Starting with his story, he was born in Chorwad in the district Junagarh, in Gujarat on 28 December 1928. Dhirajlal’s father’s name was Hirachand Ambani, and he was a school teacher. He had certain expectations from Dhirajlal in terms of education and earning. His father had also started a business in his young days but it didn’t succeed at all, and that was the reason why Hirachand Ambani didn’t want his son to go into business world. Dhirajlal’s mother’s name was Jamnaben, and she was quite an intelligent woman who believed in Dhirajlal.

Dhirajlal has had other four siblings in his family including two sisters and two brothers. Two sisters were Trilochnaben, Jasuben and the two brothers were Ramnikbhai, Natubhai.

Dhirubhai was the favourite lad of his parents. He had very very very much positive attitude towards everything he is working on. He always achieved everything he wanted and how he wanted it. And he used to take that much efforts achieving that great stuff in his life.

Education, Small Businesses and Interests

He was not that good in his school education, and he always knew that he is more into outdoor work. Because, it’s not like he wasn’t that intelligent to study. But he didn’t like that all transliteration and stuff, and our Indian education system was totally based on this stuff in those years. Dhirajlal used to tilt slightly towards the practical & hard-working stuff. He never ever really cared about people who used to bitch or be jealous about his progress. Dhirubhai used to tell his elder sister that he will earn a lot of money in his life, which he did. Once he brought a can of groundnut oil from a roadside shop on credit and sold it to another shop earning some broker ship kind of money. Also he used to settle down a stall of bhajia, fries or onion in the weekends.

Later after completing the fifth grade, Dhirubhai was sent to Junagarh for his further studies. He used to be the most prankish and active boy in the class. He also used to take part in various physical activities in school. but he wasn’t that good in the school tests, except he was good at annual exams. Also was elected as a general secretary of Junagarh student union, and made some real changes in the student union. He was a very confident person. After completing his 10th class exams, his father asked him to come to ‘Chorwad’ and asked him to drop out of school and start earning money and help his family financially.

Shifting To Aden and Family Problems

Due to the financial crisis going on in their family. It was very hard for their livelihood as Hirachand Ambani was ill from past 2-3 months. And also Ramnikbhai somehow arranged a Clerk job for Dhirajlal. Later on the very next day of Dhirajlal coming to Chorwad. Dhirajlal went to the city to get his Passport done. Because he had to go to ‘Aden’ for the job, and at that time Indians didn’t need to get Visa to fly there.

Then later Dhirajlal went to Aden and worked as a clerk. And in that way he used to help his family through finances, also Dhirajlal used to resell petrol cans and many other things as his passive income. The main and very important thing which i learnt from the ‘Life Story of Dhirubhai Ambani‘ is that. He never really cared about the problems and nor he regretted anything in his life, and he always believed that ‘Everything happens for a reason’.

Marriage with Kokilaben

Later he got married to Kokilaben in 1955.

He learnt trading, handling businesses and many other things in Aden (a city of Yemen). But later in his life, instead of earning money and accepting the job promotion, he came back to India and started making his own business in 1958.

Starting his own Business and struggle for the success

At first he searched for a lot of things in Ahmedabad, Baroda, and many other cities in search of business opportunities. But sooner he got to know that these local income sources or small businesses aren’t something he wanted to do for the rest of his life with that steady income every month. So he dropped out that idea and he went to Mumbai with Kokilaben. It is very much interesting to mention in the article Life Story Of Dhirubhai Ambani is that they (Dhirubhai and Kokilaben) had gone to Mumbai and settled in a two-room chawl. While now we know that his own son (Mukesh Ambani) owns a house of 27 story building, which is an very inspiring thing to focus on. So, coming on to his earlier life in Bombay (Mumbai). He first started with the business of spices. He had an office of the business but there was nothing there in the office; just a table, a chair , and some papers, later he met one Muslim guy called Mehta’ji who used to send letters to some of the contacts of Dhirajlal in Aden for trading in the gulf emirates.

Well as the later offering the bulk supply of spices, jaggery, sugar, etc.. these things helped Dhirajlal earn more and much more profit in the business, and eventually Dhirajlal invested/ tried in the Polyester business too, which was very much successful, and eventually, our Dhirajlal became everyone’s Dhirubhai who was the leader of the Polyester business field, and from that moment our Dhirubhai never looked back. Even if people tried to back him off, they tried to bitch about him saying he’s a fraud or anything, but he never really cared about those persons, later he also got into petroleum business, which was a pure Hit. But unfortunately, he got into very much struggles later, but our Dhirubhai was a real gem, he never looked back, never cared about anyone who’s against him. Even if at some points he didn’t have that much amount of money while investing in a polyester business, he let people buy the shares of the company and let them have the profit as the price per share used to increase surprisingly in high amounts.

Founding Reliance Industries

Dhirubhai Ambani founded ‘Reliance Commercial Corporation‘ with ‘Champaklal Damani‘ in 1960, but unfortunately their partnership ended in 1965 and then Dhirubhai continued the polyester firm
