She has completed her primary education from “Government Girls Inter College, Akbarpur” and “Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi“.

She is also a Law graduate and a well educated woman with her qualifications being,

• Doctorate from the “University of Strathclyde”.

Arunima from her childhood was very much interested in football and volleyball.

She was also an active athlete from her childhood as she used to participate in various sports activities.

Arunima Sinha’s Career Details

Being a sports enthusiast,

Arunima always took part in variety of sports in her school and college.

She also became a national level Volleyball and Football player.

Due to some of her personal problems and the advice of her brother,

Arunima then applied for multiple military exams.

Important Fact - The only reason behind joining military was that, she would be able to earn and still could involve in sports and become an athlete.
As Indian Military also involves various sports into their activities.

Unfortunately,

Arunima got multiple rejections from the military exams but one day she got a call from CSIF, saying that she has been selected for joining as a Head Constable but there’s a mismatch of her birth date in two different documents.

So, it was this time when next day Arunima left for district office in a train and faced the brutal accident.

Arunima Sinha’s Accident

She boarded the “Padmavat Express” on April 11, 2011 from Lucknow to Delhi.

It was this time when she got pushed by four thieves out of the train who were trying to snatch her bag and gold chain.

Immediately, after when she fell out on another railway track, another train came and crushed her one leg below the knee and she also got numerous fractures in her other leg and spine.

After suffering there on the railway track for the entire night,

Arunima then got help and then was moved in a government hospital.

But the struggle doesn’t end there; the hospital where she was admitted was short of anesthetic drugs needed for the amputation of her leg.

The pain was so severe that Arunima requested all of the doctors to amputate her leg without giving the anesthesia and made them believe that she can bear the pain.

Arunima had already lost a lot of blood at that time, and by seeing her spirit to live and her struggle to fight, all of the doctors and other staff gave her one unit of blood each.

Later on April 18, 2011

Arunima was brought to the AIIMS hospital for her further treatment.

After spending four months in the hospital, Arunima was then provided with a prosthetic leg free of cost by a private company.

Being a national level sports player,

Arunima also got offered a compensation of,

• ₹ 25,000 By Indian Sports Ministry
• ₹ 200000 By the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports
• Recommendation for a job in CSIF
• Job offer from Indian Railways

Arunima Sinha’s Mountaineering Career

It was this time when Arunima decided to climb Mount Everest and other highest peaks in the various continents.

Later in order to make her new dream come true,

After getting out from the hospital instead of going to her home, she directly headed to “Bachendri Pal” who has already climbed Mount Everest.

It was this time when Arunima took the training for her dream for 18 months in Uttarkashi Camp.

Arunima Sinha was sponsored by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation.

Though despite of this much spirit and willpower,

Arunima faced many difficulties in her life.

Yet she still made her dream come true and became the first female amputee in the world to climb Mount Everest.
